As you'd expect from a big city, ours is full of things to do. Rich with culture, sports, shopping, and a wealth of activities and interests. Wichita has all the enticements of a well-populated well-planned urban center. However, it still has the qualities that make a small community inviting, such as not having to fight the traffic everywhere you go and neighborhoods where you know your family is safe. These things may seem simple on the surface, but they really make life more enjoyable and less complicated. Cimate: When You Like Your Weather Sunny-Side Up Kansas is one of the top ten "sunniest" states, with an average of 225 sunny days per year, even more than Florida! Spring and summer are full of sunshine and flowers. Long autumns are a Wichita trademark, and the winters won't wear out your snow shovel.
Housing: Making Yourself at Home Is Easy Whatever kind of home life you like, there's an area in Wichita where you’ll fit right in. There are five golf course communities, a variety of well-established neighborhoods like College Hill and Riverside, several lakefront housing developments, as well as a wide selection of apartments, condominiums, and townhomes. There are also housing choices in every price range. Whether you live in Wichita or one of the smaller towns in Sedgwick County, you’ll be close to shopping, schools, parks, and medical facilities. Entertainment: You'll Never Be Dressed Up Old Town, located in Wichita's renovated downtown business district, features a myriad of restaurants, shops and nightclubs. From a local microbrewery & pubs to ethnic cuisine, Old Town will satisfy any appetite. The city's annual River Festival attracts many regional artists and musicians for a week long cultural celebration. Throughout the year, Wichita brings in many top recording artists ranging from rock, alternative, and country music. There are over 60 shopping centers and malls throughout the Wichita/Sedgwick county area, and just north of Wichita, you'll find a fast growing outlet mall.

Location: Find Yourself Some Middle Ground One of the best things about living in the Wichita/Sedgwick County area is that you're located in the middle of everything. Cities like Chicago, Denver, Albuquerque, and Dallas are well within your reach. So anytime you have the urge to get up and go, there are some fabulous places you can get to in just a few short hours. Transportation: A City Where You Can Wing It Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport is the largest airport in the state of Kansas for local and regional air service. People from across Kansas, as well as surrounding states, use Mid-Continent airport as their main connection for air transportation. Non-stop flights are available to Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, Little Rock, Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, Minneapolis, Denver, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Las Vegas, and Phoenix. Mid-Continent Airport is located in the southwest section of the city approximately 6 miles (12 minutes) from downtown. Education: A+ Schools In addition to our public school system, Wichita also offers more than 35 private and parochial school choices. Wichita is also home to five different universities and technical schools. |
